2019 EAST Seminar Highlights

While many were wrapping up their summer with last-minute vacations, EAST hosted the annual EAST Seminar. Facilitated by leading industry professional and veteran educators in the EAST network, nearly 200 educators from across (and outside of) Arkansas spent three days networking and attending professional development breakout sessions.

EAST took over the Grand Prairie Center of Stuttgart, AR and saw seminar attendees actively living out this year’s theme: Against the Grain. Day 1 facilitators attended Tech Camp or an Industry Tour — a guided tour through the city that provided insight into a major industry in the city — all in efforts to better assist students as they use technology to solve community problems. From tackling new tech to meeting new and potential community partners, EAST Seminar was the perfect place to fill your toolkit and start the school year against the grain!

In efforts to provide a networking atmosphere, event staples like The Playground, — where participants could engage in a quick lesson about trending technologies available for the classroom and meet new potential community partners — returned this year. The networking continued well into the evening and quickly turned into fun! This year’s after-hours event included the Amazing Race: EAST Edition ending at local hotspot Open Season for a little karaoke and rounded out the week with an Illusionist and a popular hometown food truck, Ashley’s Twisted Flavors. .

EAST appreciates the time and efforts of the Grand Prairie Center staff as they helped to make our extended family of facilitators feel welcome in our backyard. We hope everyone had a blast and left the “rice capital” ready to rock the upcoming school year.

Tech Camp | Industry Tour

The Industry Tour offered as an alternative to Tech Camp is a day-long adventure that included stops at U of A Rice Research Center and Rich-N-Tone Calls, Inc with lunch provided by Riceland. Thanks to these businesses for allowing our facilitators in to learn about their processes and the technical skills they’re looking for in future employees.

Recognition

It is always fun to say "job well done," especially when everybody around knows just how much work went into that job. We offer our kudos (along with pins and certificates) to those facilitators who have served in EAST environments for 5, 10 and 15 years. We’re getting close to seeing some hit the 20-year mark, and we cannot wait! We are going to new pins!
